2008 Pan American Championships 03.28.08-03.31.08 : The 2008 Pan Jiu Jitsu Championships took Place in Carson, CA on March 29-31, 2008.

REVOLUTION took a team of 3: Jory, Kris and Royce.
LDMA took a team of 2: Paulo and Brandon.

Royce was up first. With less than 10 classes total training, it really says a lot for him to take on this opportunity. This was also his first time to wear a gi ;) He easily won his first match 16-0. His second match he was up 12-0 and got tapped with a gi choke with 5 seconds left. Ahhhhhhh...... So close yet so far away. I have no doubt that with a little training under his belt, Royce will be unstoppable. Welcome to the team!

Kris was up next. He just earned his blue belt in the end of Feb. It was good to see him compete in his new division. He looked good.

Jory got 3rd in the Master's Black Belt division. This was his first competition as a black belt as well, and he had some really even matches throughout.

Paulo got 3rd in his division.

Brandon had 59 people in his white belt division. He looked good in his matches.

Overall it was a good trip and a good time. Congrats to everyone who competed, we look forward to the experience you bring back to the team.

1st No Gi World Championships 12.15.2007 : Congrats to Jory Malone, Arkansas' First World Champion!
Jory also got 3rd in the Men's Brown Belt and Ray Borel got 3rd in his division. Congrats to everyone who competed on your hard work and dedication.

Big Big thanks to Clinch Gear, Prosource, Applebee's and Renegade Apparel for sponsoring us! We can't say enough about these companies and their products. They're good people! They wouldn't let Jory wear his Clinch Gear shorts during his matches, but they couldn't stop him from wearing them on the winner's podium!

Jory is now Arkansas' First No Gi World Champion!
Jory also got 3rd in the Mens, losing his match for 2nd on the ref's decision to a Brazilian. Unfortunately the crowd all thought he won, but they don't count. He injured his knee in his first match of the Men's division escaping a foot lock, but pressed on to grapple several other matches after reformulating one hell of a one-legged game plan.

Ray had an excellent performance and got 3rd in his Division. He showed great movement, speed and power in his technique and lost by a point. He has made considerable improvements to his game and really looked great out there. Ended up coaching and didn't get too many pics of the match.

Bianca and Diojone from Macieo, Brazil were there. They both got first in their respective divisions. Great Job!

Scott stepped up in the blue belt division, wanting to get all he can in before leaving for Iraq. He has also made considerable improvements. He out-scored his second opponent when he got caught with hardly any time left. Nonetheless a great performance on his part. I did not get to take many pics of his match b/c I had to coach.

Jennifer looked great. She made a strategical error by sitting to guard that earned her opponent sweep points, putting her opponent ahead with hardly any time left to come back. Next time well make sure that doesn't happen.

We had a great time at the Competition. Ray and Scott were having cravings and dreams of chocolate cake. We stuffed ourselves at Chili's afterwards.

Before it all started we visited Hermosa Beach again and took a little walk shopping and sightseeing. We also visited the OTM fight shop.

Extreme Grappling Open 10.20.07 : REVOLUTION went to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the Extreme Grappling Open. Jory, Jeau and Paulo all competed in the Pro Invite Submission Grappling Division. Everyone had a great performance. Our downfall this time was the wrestling. Indiana is a great state for wrestling, and we got a outwrestled by takedowns. This was Paulo's first or second No Gi competition and he plans on doing more now that he has the opportunity.

Jory competed in the Brown Belt Men's Absolute Gi division where he got 3rd. He had a great performance and was able to utilize many of the new things he has been working on with Paulo.

Jeau had planned to enter 2 Gi divisions but injured his knee and was unable to do so. We look forward to his return.

My pictures didn't really come out so well this time, so there is only a portion of them here.

Machado TX BJJ Invitationals 10.13.07 : Alright Here’s the coaches breakdown of The Machado Tx Invitational weekend. Short summary, Jeau Kung: 1st Blue Belt & 1st Blue Belt Absolute, Justin Cox: 2nd Place Blue Belt, Blake: 3rd Place Blue Belt, & Scott: 3rd Place White Belt. Now for the extended version:

First in the kid’s division was Shelby. Shelby showed a lot of composure, listened, and stuck with her game plan despite giving up size and experience to the boys she competed against. I have no doubt will be seeing her at the top of the podium in just a little time.

In the white belt division the guys from Conway MMA and Sherwood looked great. There was a lot of good position and technique being displayed by the group collectively, and they were able to stack some wins. Joel is doing some great things with the Conway group. The lost matches in this group came down to just simple experience, as the white belt division can have a big mix of experience. Some of the guys had only been training for three weeks, and were able to hold their own. I suspect with more upcoming competitions a lot of these guys will be winning their respective divisions. There’s really a ton of up and coming talent on the team.

One of the standouts in the tourney was Paul Fox. Paul has consistently performed better with each competition. He threw some awesome aggressive judo dominating the takedown in all his matches. He even had a big throw for a takedown with a wristlock in one of his matches. There has just been all around improvement in his game, and it shows he has a better understanding of the game from racking up experience.

Jeremy is one of our new guys, who’s just been with us a short time. He has great technical ability for someone with his time in training and was very composed on the mats. I suspect the more time he gets under his belt, we’ll be seeing a lot of him on the podium.

Scott took third in his division with very consistent game plan performance. He’s only been with us a few months, but he’s in training hard every night. He’s one of the most coachable guys on the team, which allowed him to place in his first tourney outing. He simply listened and followed the plan, which let him take advantage of all the hard training he’d been putting in at the gym. He even stepped up and done a couple of matches in the blue belt division to get the extra experience.

Jeau showed everyone what we already all knew; he’s got loads of talent. He has the greatest movement I’ve ever seen in a grappler under the elite black belt level. He swept the blue belt division executing his game plans to perfection. He even was competing a weight class above his and lighter than the rest of his opponents. Many people personally came to Jeau and congratulated him on his outstanding performance saying Jeau had defeated some really seasoned blue belts. Jeau then made easy work of the absolute division quickly submitting all of his opponents in short manner. Jeau has been working hard with 2 a day training season with Paulo and myself, and his jiu jitsu has really begun to mature. I think there’s no limit as to where his talent can take him, and we’re already back at work in the gym preparing.

Blake took third in Jeau’s division with some impressive matches of his own. Blake’s grappling is very well rounded, and this is the best I’ve ever seen Blake at. He played standup and top to bottom very well. He got a really bad judges call in overtime of one of his matches, which I can tell you he won. That’s how it goes sometimes though. Blake has really come into his own the last few times I’ve seen him fight, and I’m happy to see him doing so well. He’s trained a long time, and I think he’s found himself on the mats. We almost ended up with Jeau, Blake, and Scott sweeping the division for the team.

The final matches of the day belonged to Justin in the heavy blue belt division. Justin pretty much tooled every opponent they put in front of him, which is usual style. In the final Justin faced the winner of the looser bracket, whom he had beat early in the division. It looked to be a quick win for Justin as his opponent’s will collapsed quickly. Unfortunately Justin broke one of his ribs on a sprawl and had to stop the match. Justin got patched up at the hospital, collected his second place, and I’m sure will be back in action and on top the podium in short time.

Overall I have to say this is one of the best performances the team has had in competition. The blues are coming into their own, and the white belts are learning faster than ever before. It’s also great seeing LDMA all come together. The players are all excited about LDMA and what it’s bringing to the table for every individual. The camaraderie of the schools and team is an unbelievable and rewarding thing to be a part of.

Pan American Championships 03.30.06-4.01.06 : Team Revolution was proud to have the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, California to compete in the Pan American Jiu Jitsu Championships. This competition features some of the best BJJ Players around the world, with people coming from all over the US, Japan, Brasil and Europe.

The highlight of the competition was Jory winning 1st in his division. He fought 3 matches to win the Gold.
Jory also got Silver in the No Gi and Abby Bronze in the Gi.

Jeau came along for the fun. He was supposed to compete but dislocated his shoulder a few weeks prior to leaving. At least he got his money's worth by getting his picture taken with none other than the legend himself: Rickson Gracie!

We also had the luxury of traveling to Hermosa Beach in our free time. It's a beautiful beach and we hope to return. Jory and Jeau had a nice time on the Pier taking some rediculous pictures!

Arnold World Grappling Championships 3.3.07-3.4.07 : Team Revolution was the First Team in Arkansas to hit the Arnold World Grappling Championships. It was one of the best trips. We took a pretty good sized team, some new folks, and some old, and we traveled to Ohio for the festivities. The Competition was part of the Arnold Schwarzenaggear sports festival, which features competitions such as bodybuilding, gymnastics, grappling, karate, weight lifting, etc.

The grappling competition was a 2 day event. We went around the town at night and ate good food. The UFC was also in Columbus that night, so there were a lot of people around. On the other side of the blue curtains in these pictures was a huge expo full of booths of people giving autographs, etc. We also had Karate, Kickboxing and Sumo wrestling in the same room as us, and Arnold showed up and spoke at the Sumo Event. It was fun to watch.

Alex was first up and competed in the Kids division. He placed 3rd, carrying on a great track record for the Youth Competitors here. It was his first tournament and he had been training only a few months, and competed with kids up to 1 year experience.

Abby competed in the Women's purple belt gi and no gi. She lost to the 2x pan ams gold medalist in both, and got 2nd in Gi and 3rd in No Gi.

Jory injured his rib the first day but came back the second and won 3rd in the Men's No Gi.

Wes did a great job in his first competition, winning 2nd in a large no gi division. He was also the lightest person in his division.

Jeau competed in the Blue Belt division and got 4th. He lost to another great Nova Uniao competitor from Canada. It was a good match.

NAGA North American Championships 11.28.06 : Team Revolution again made history as Arkansas' First Team to hit the NAGA North American Championships. It was a long drive for us, as the competition was held in Connecticut. Preston Fleeman competed first in the Kids Division. He won 3rd Place in the Gi division, beating out some kids with much more time in Training, and keeping with our winning streak that every child REVOLUTION has taken to a competition has placed! Way to go Preston.

Jory competed in the No Gi and got 2nd due to an ankle injury via heel hook in the finals.

Abby won the Women's No Gi Division. For the Gi she stepped up and competed in the Purple Belt division, winning her first match and losing in the finals to a Loyd Irvin Purple Belt.

Overall this was a great competition. It had over 1200 competitors, making it the largest competition we have attended to date.

On another note, you will only find 3 photos in this gallery. I travelled all the way up there and opened my camera bag to find I had left the camera. NAGA was nice enough to put these photos on their website for me!

NAGA Chicago 8.26.06 : Team Revolution Hit NAGA Chicago. This was a really tough competition with a lot of seasoned competitors present. It was a great tournament for our team. After the competition we went down to Chicago to check out the Sears Tower. It was closed but still nice to see it up close. We ate at Giordano's Pizza, which I think happens to be the best pizza in the world. After that we went over to visit with Alan and Mari Hobbs' family. They took us to their land where they run Rodeos and let us ride the horses around. They also made us some great Mexican food. This ranks up there with some of the best trips.

Coral's Combat Classic 7.29.06 : Team Revolution went to Coral's Combat Classic. It was kind of a last minute decision. It was a long drive. The tournament had some seasoned competitors. The Chicago Area is a great area for BJJ. They misspelled Jeau's name and he missed his division. We made him do the blue belt division where he got a Silver Medal, losing in the finals to a 3 tip blue belt. Jory was a purple belt at the time, but he competed in the Men's Division agains some tough brown belts in Gi and No Gi. He lost the finals of his Gi to Don Richards, who is an excellent Grappler. After the competition we went downtown to Giordano's Pizza. That was the best part!

Modern Ringsport Grappling Tournament 4.1.2006 : This was officially our first tournament. Adam had been training with us the longest and wanted to compete. He competed in the men's white belt division (even though he was only 17). He did a great job, fighting 3 matches total and winning 2nd place to a more seasoned opponenet. He did a great job listening to coaching and executing a game plan. Several other Arkansas' Schools and clubs attended this tournament, as well as others from surrounging sates. There are also a few pics in here for Mr. Snyder at LDMA in Highpoint, NC.
