Machado TX BJJ Invitationals 10.13.07 : Shelby traveled with us to the Carlos Machado TX BJJ Invitationals. She had only been training an extremely short while. However she wanted to compete. She came in more than usual and did a lot of extra work on the side. She fought 2 matches. We were extremely proud to see her out there, especially since she was able to use a lot of the things she learned in her private lessons. We have no doubt that with her work ethic and dedication, Shelby will be an awesome competitor.

Battle at the Rock 9.15.07 : REVOLUTION attended Battle at the Rock, put on by Michelle Ray and LRTKD. We had 2 kids who wanted to enter: Austin and John. They did a GREAT job and brought home a 1st and 3rd place!

The kids had to compete in the green belt division again, which was fine. At REVOLUTION we start sparring earlier and it is our focus. However most competitions do not allow sparring before the green belt level. Therefore, John and Austin had to bump up to that division to compete. At the last competition we did not compete in forms, but John and Austin asked to learn theirs because they wanted to take full advantage of their competitive experience. They came in and worked extra on a form and sparring strategy.

Austin got 3rd in the green belt forms division! His superior technique and attention to detail allowed him to medal despite competing against kids with much more experience and much more technical forms.

John really enjoys the sparring, and he also competed in the green belt division. He got 1st out of 6 competitors! He showed good strategy and scored head kicks, lead leg kicks and punches to the body. He listened well. He did good in his first match but we improved upon his strategy for further matches. He listened well to the new plan and followed it to a "T".

Austin also had a great sparring match. He lost in overtime by 1 point to a much more skilled opponent. Austin did a great job in working his strategy, scoring kicks and punches.

These guys represented the school very well and brought home more trophies for our kids team!
Thus far it is our 6th competition for kids, and thus far every kid has brought home medal again.
GOOD JOB GUYS WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!!

Wadley's Tournament 8.25.07 : This was the first competition we attended for our Kids Striking Program. It was a point sparring tournament, put on by Farren Wadley and Bryant Martial Arts. It was a chance for John to get his feet wet in the competition arena.

At REVOLUTION we do things a little different than most schools. We start the kids on sparring from the beginning. We also focus primarily on Kickboxing and continuous sparring. However, this competition was a fun, safe way for John to test his skills before taking it to the next level. He came in early in the AM before the tournament. We made some slight modifictions to his Kickboxing game and came up with a game plan that would work in this tournament.

He got out there and followed his new game plan to a T, bringing home the win in a division of 6 Tough Kids! We look forward to great things from John in the future!

Congrats John!

P.S. These pics were taken with a Sony instead of my canon. Jory had my canon at his BJJ Comp, and Jeau was kind enough to let me use his.

NAGA Georgia 12.02.06 : Hannah came with us to NAGA GA in December. This was her first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition. She put in a lot of extra time training for it. She usually stayed after class and did a variety of drills. We worked on a competition strategy for her. She executed an excellent game plan in the Kids No Gi division, bringing home a Frist Place SWORD!

She also did excellent in the Gi. Some of the kids were a little more versed in Gi grips and maneuvers, but she ended up with Third Place in the Gi.

Ovearall it was a great competition for her. She listened to the coaching, executed her game plan, and learned the valuable lesson of how it pays off to put in that extra hard work before hand.

Congrats Hannah!

NAGA North American Championships 11.4.06 : Preston came with us to the NAGA North American Grappling Championships. This was his second Competition.

Most of the kids there were very good. Preston did great in the Gi division, and won Third Place. This was quite an accomplishment for him and a good experience being able to compete against kids with much more time in training than he had.

Unfortunately, I forgot my camera for this competition. All we got was Video, which we will hopefull get uploaded soon. Until then, we have some pics from Preston's Photoshoot for the paper!
